

William C. Cekovsky, age 78, of Southington, CT was called to eternal rest and into the loving embrace of his late wife, Janet Cekovsky, during the early morning hours of March 18, 2025. Born December 13, 1946 in Johnstown, NY, Bill was the second of three children born to Valentine and Helen Cekovsky. He was predeceased by his older brother, Richard Cekovsky of Lenexa, KS, and is survived by his younger sister, Maryann Wadsworth of Clifton Park, NY. Bill graduated from Bishop Burke HS in Gloversville, NY and then attended SUNY Cobleskill. He finished his college years at the University of New Haven, playing baseball under the guidance of the legendary coach, Porky Viera.
Bill’s professional career was spent as a Financial Advisor working for Connecticut General, Cigna, Lincoln Financial, and Sagemark Consulting. His impact as a professional and as a leader of people was profound.
Bill married Janet Russo on August 11, 1979, and together they built a home, a family, and a life. They raised four children and remained by each other’s side until Janet’s passing in 2014. Bill’s passion was his children, and his commitment to them left a lasting impression as to what it meant to be a true family man. He is survived by and forever cherished by his son Anthony and his wife Charlene Cekovsky (Amber, Andrew, Myla) of Middletown, CT; his son Richard and his wife Jacqueline Cekovsky (Janette, Jocelyn, Rosalie) of Perkasie, PA; his son William and his wife Kelly Cekovsky (Jackson, Colin) of Southington, CT; and his daughter Valerie Cekovsky of Boston, MA.
Bill gave his all to the town of Southington, a place he truly loved. He was the President of SYBA for 20 years and oversaw massive changes and improvements to the organization with the help of his trusted and valued board of directors, many of whom are still involved to this day. Bill served as the VP of Southington West Little League and even continued after his children had grown too old to play any longer. Additionally, he was an active parishioner of St. Thomas church and served on the Men’s Club. He was a coach, a mentor, and a friend, and he positively impacted the lives of countless people throughout his years of service to the community. Bill was a man of conviction, faith, and honor. He truly believed that character was defined by what you did when no one was looking, and he believed that to do something meant to do it the right way. Famous for his bone crushing handshake and his quick wit, Bill met all of life’s challenges head on and unafraid.
Calling hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday March 24, 2025 at DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at St. Aloysius Church 254 Burritt St. Plantsville, CT. All are asked to gather directly at the church. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.
