Lit a candle in memory of William "Billy" LaVorgna

I was so saddened to read of Bill's passing. I taught with Bill at Flanders School in the early 80's. He always made me smile. Even after leaving Flanders, whenever I ran into Bill, it was like no time had passed. I want to extend my prayers to his family, especially his mother, who I had the privilege of golfing with for a few years. Rest in peace Bill, you will be missed. Laurie Plourd

How sadden we were to hear of Mr. LaVorgna's  death.  As a parent you always want the best for your child and we were very fortunate the best was Mr.LaVorgna.  Math was not one of our son's strongest points but that all change when Mr. LaVorgna became his teacher.   He gave him a strong foundation not only in Math but in life.  
Our prayers and thoughts of you will be always within our hearts.  May you rest in peace.

There are very few great teachers that you remember for the rest of your life. He was a great teacher and I really owe a lot of my success in life to him. He was one of my favorite teachers ever. The kids he reached is his greatest legacy.

Bill was a great guy and true friend.  I was a teacher like Bill and met him at various school functions, but didn't really know him.  Then in 1982 I transfered to Flanders school and taught accross the hall from Bill until we both moved to DePaolo when it became a middle school.  During these years I got to know and become friends with Bill.  Whenever I had a problem or concern it was Bill who would lend an ear and offer advice if he felt I needed it.
At DePaolo we both taught math, but on differnet teams.  One year I talked him into going to a regional math conference in Philadelphia.  On the ride to our hotel we got lost and we must have passed the Philadelphia airport four or five times, Bill told me one more time by the Airport and we would have to show our passport.  
This pass summer I had to go out to Indianapolis, IN and I asked Bill if he wanted to take a ride with me and of course Bill said yes,  it was a long and boring ride, but without Bill I don't think I could have made it.  We had some memorable moments and lots of laughs along the way.
As the years passed he became a good friend to my wife, also.  For the last two years I went to lunch twice a week with Bill.  Every Tuesday my wife and Bill and I went to lunch, we would eat and then just sit and talk and laugh.  On Fridays Bill, our friend Frank and I would meet at Bills and then go to lunch.  We would spend the rest of the day driving around or at Bills place.
The last few days I have talked to a lot of people, who were either friends of Bill or knew him and they all said that Bill was a great guy who will be really missed.  i know I will miss him terribly.  There is a hole in my life that will be there the rest of my life.
Thanks Bill for being my friend.

Brad Hayward

Bill will be greatly missed.  I met Bill many years ago when we both taught at Flanders School.  We've shared many memorable experiences including trips to Portugal, New Orleans, California, Cape Cod, and Florida to name a few. Since his retirement we've met every Friday with our friend, Brad, to enjoy lunch at various local restaurants.  Afterwards we'd often go for a ride around town.....he drove.....and end up at Bill's condo for cocktails and conversation.  On weekends Bill frequently invited me over to enjoy a meal, a drink or two, and conversation.  He loved to cook and often tried recipes he'd read about or had seen on TV.  He greatly enjoyed TV and using his DVR to record numerous programs.............He hated commercials!  

He was a generous, caring friend to all.  He loved his family and spoke to and of them often.  He was looking forward to moving to Florida in the near future...............He enjoyed wintering there on the east coast in Hobe Sound.

My thoughts and condolences go out to all his family and friends.

Bill was my very first teaching partner - we worked together,,we became good friends, we had some very good times together.  He was the BEST!!!  I am shocked and so sad to lose such a good friend and colleague.  My heart goes out to his family and friends....he is at peace now.....but my memories of him will go on and on.....
