
Bristol- William Messenger, 65, formerly a long-time resident of Southington, died unexpectedly at home on Jan. 7, 2008. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 31 years Nancy (LeBrun) Messenger in 1995.
Born in New Britain on Dec. 14, 1942 the son of the late Harold and Helen Messenger. He was employed by the Hospital of Central CT New Britain General Campus for 25 years. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in Southington.
Mr. Messenger inspired several young lives as a dedicated coach at Western Little League, Babe Ruth League, Southington Valley Midget Football and the town of Southington Basketball League. He was a lifetime member of the New Britain Quartet Club. He was a 1960 graduate of Goodwin Technical School in New Britain.
He is survived by a son Glenn Messenger and his wife Sheryl, a daughter, Roxanne (Messenger) Avitabile and her husband Louis Jr. all of Southington, 3 grandchildren, who where the light of his life, Mikaela, Haley and Kyle Messenger, a brother, Gary Messenger of Old Saybrook, and a sister Jean Gottlin of Forestville. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and cousins, also many co-workers and friends who loved him from the hospital.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery along side his beloved wife Nancy. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.
