

William (Bill) Bernard Vance of New Britain, formerly of Southington and Waterbury, died January 4, 2010. Bill was born on August 15, 1919, son of James and Josephine (Sweeney) Vance, and was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret (Peg) Carey Vance. A veteran of World War II, he was employed for many years by the Naugatuck Glass Company as a machinist and foreman. Bill was the cherished father of William and his wife Shirley of Madison, James and his wife Sara of Coventry, Stephen and his wife Judith of Guilford, Robert of State College, PA, Raymond and his wife Rita of Milton, GA, and Sheila Molaver and her husband Jonathan of Southington; loving grandfather of nine, Heather Rittman of Mechanicsburg, PA, Colleen Tavano of Glastonbury, Sara Varney of Wethersfield, Lauren Tebbe of Ridgefield, Christopher Vance of Marlborough, MA, Michael Vance of Charlotte, NC, Stephanie Vance of Milton, GA, and Alex and Daniel Molaver, both of Southington. Bill also had nine great grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters, Marjorie Iarrapino of Waterbury and Joan Stowe of Thomaston. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He loved his large family deeply and was fortunate to join them last week at the family?s annual Christmas gathering. Until recent years Bill and Peg spent their winters in Palm Springs, FL where they enjoyed their time with many close friends. He will be sadly missed and in our hearts forever. The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 9 at 9:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 6 - 8 p.m.
