George Bassam Al Hayek, 26, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, after suffering fatal gunshot wounds while on duty as a security guard in Spokane, Washington. Born in Bethlehem, Palestine, George emigrated to the United States in 2006 to escape the hardships of life under military occupation. He and his wife lived in Washington DC where George worked as a grocery manager for four years. He moved to Spokane in May this year. He was the youngest son of Bassam and Hiam Al Hayek, who reside in Spokane. George is survived by his wife Summer and daughter Natalia, his parents, his four brothers: Juliano, Hanna, Jimmy and Issa and two sisters: Jane and Joumana. The memorial service will be held Friday, September 3rd at 7 pm in St. John the Baptist Antiochian Greek Orthodox Church, 4718 E. Horse Haven Ave., Post Falls, Idaho. The funeral and interment will be held on Saturday, September 4th, at St. John’s at 10:00 am. Following that on at 12:30 pm, a traditional Mercy Meal will be held in Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, 12407 E. 16th Ave. in the Spokane Valley. Donations will be accepted at any Washington Trust Bank in George Al Hayek Memorial Fund.
