Theodore "Ted" Medina (MSgt USAF, retired), age 88, passed away at his home in Nine Mile Falls, Washington on April 9, 2011. Ted was born in Seguin, Texas to Juan and Susanna Medina. A veteran of World War II, he served 25 years in the USAF. After an honorable discharge, he worked in public service as a Spokane County District Court clerk, a police officer in Airway Heights, and as a Spokane County Special Deputy. Ted was a dedicated member of several nonprofit service and charitable organizations, including Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Shriners and BPOE. He received the Distinguished Achievement Award for service as VFW State Commander (1989-1990). He was married to Ramona Medina in 1948 and to Betty Medina in 1988 (divorced in 2011). Ted was preceded in death by his wife Ramona Medina; his brothers Joe G. Medina, Fidencio Medina, Roy Medina, David Medina; and by his sister Josie Govea. He is survived by his brother, Henry Medina; sister, Velia Martinez; sons, Theodore R. Medina, Thomas Medina, James Medina; daughters Leilani Pottratz & LaDonna Browell; grandchildren, Jasmin Medina, Brandon Zavala, Mikal Browell, Cassandra Browell, Stephen Medina, Bryan Medina, Eric Medina; & seven great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held Thursday, April 21, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, followed by a rosary at 6:00 pm., at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home on 1306 N. Monroe. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 22, 2011, in the Alwin Chapel at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home. A reception will follow at VFW Post 51. Donations may be made to the VFW Post 51 Relief Fund. Papa Ted was dearly loved and will always be remembered by family and friends for his generosity and irreverent sense of humor.
