

Gerald (Gerry) Hanson, born in Montreal on June 9, 1928, passed away on May 15, 2016 at the age of 87. Dearly beloved husband of Elva (nee Grant) for 65 years. Much loved father to Janis Benson (Randall), Kathryn Hanson (Russell Watson), Kenneth Hanson (Shannon Quinn) and Robert Hanson (Kim Sinclair). Cherished grandfather to Lauren and Kenneth Benson, Austin and Alexandra Simpson, and Connor and Ryan Hanson.
A proud retiree of Alcan Aluminum after 37 years of service, Gerry's passion was music and the performing arts. Most recently Gerry was tenor soloist and trumpet player with Knox Presbyterian Church in St. Catharines. Earlier in his career in Montreal, he performed many cantatas and oratorios with the Elgar Choir, and in the churches of St. Andrew and St. Paul’s Presbyterian, Erskine and American United, and St. Peter’s Anglican in the Town of Mount Royal. Gerry also performed leading Broadway roles with the Arcadians, The Lyric, and Phoenix Theatre companies. He enjoyed a longtime career in various bands as vocalist and trumpet player, most enduringly with the Paul Beauregard swing band.
The family of Gerald Charles Hanson will receive family and friends at Knox Presbyterian Church, 53 Church St., St. Catharines, Ontario on Saturday, May 28, at 11:00 am, followed by a reception in the church hall.
