After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Gil passed away peacefully in the arms of his daughter, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on February 15, 2012, five days after his 76th birthday. Gil leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Dorothy (nee Griffis). He will be forever missed and never forgotten by his daughter Cindy and her husband Edison MacAulay, his best friend and grandson Darcy (Leanne), grandsons Chris and Ryan, and grand-daughter Shyla. Proud great-grandfather to Brielle, the shining star whom he adored and cherished. Predeceased by his parents Donat and Loretta and his sisters Carmen and Lillian. The family would like to thank Lisa Maroney and the staff of 5-0 Transportation for allowing Gil the privilege of doing what he loved the most, driving, until he could no longer go on. You gave him the greatest gift of all, his dignity. Special thanks to Frank Wilson, his co-worker and friend, for sharing his last few hours. You fulfilled his last wish to say good-bye to his 5-0 family, a trip that he regrets that he was not able to make in time. You helped him pass in peace. Many thanks to the nurses at GNGH for their excellent care and compassion to Gil on his last and final journey.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers or donations, Gil expressed the wish that his friends visit or call Dorothy at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital and share your memories of him with her. Arrangements entrusted to HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street (905-684-6346). On-line tributes may be made at www.hulseandenglish.com.
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when my life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave when my life is done.
Rest in peace Daddy,
I LOVE YOU!
