BAIN, Helen Jean (nee Lindsay)

Passed away peacefully on February 18, 2011 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 83. Loving and cherished Mom to Shirley Brown (Stan) of St. Catharines and Ellen Donovan (Bob) of Hamilton. Beloved Nana of Melanie Donovan (Ken) of Brampton, Jodi Donovan (Brock) of Niagara Falls and Corey Brown of Toronto. Sister of Tom Lindsay (Margaret) of East Kilbride, Scotland, Janet Weir and Betty Kirkwood, both of St. Catharines. Sister-in-law of Ken and Marie Bain of Petrolia. Helen will be missed by many nieces and nephews and close friends, including lifelong friend Catherine Doherty. Helen was predeceased by her husband Robert Carl Bain (1995), her parents Tom and Nellie Lindsay, both of Glasgow, Scotland, brother Jackie Lindsay and sister Margaret Walker.

Helen came to Canada as a war bride in 1945, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax, NS. Helen retired form Eaton’s in 1991 after making a countless number of friends over the years. She volunteered for several years at Memorial School, she participated in carpet bowling at Knox Church and more recently she was a member of the Downtown Seniors and enjoyed playing darts. In September Helen moved to the Loyalist Retirement Residence and enjoyed all the activities there, especially bingo. Thanks to friends and employees at the Loyalist for their wonderful care, also many thanks to the medical staff at the Greater Niagara General Hospital for making Mom’s last days comfortable, and for their kindness and compassion.

Helen’s family will receive friends at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church St. (905-684-6346) on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place in the Chapel on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. On-line tributes may be made at www.hulseandenglish.com.

Now you will be able to do the Highland Fling again. Cheerio till we meet again.
