It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Wallace Shannon. Jim was the dearly loved husband of Priscilla (Pat) for 63 years, loving father of Brian (Jo Anne), Lynne, and Robert, cherished grandfather of Tim (Joanne), Todd, Alex and Elise, step-grandfather of Rachael (Jay), Meagan (Javier), great-grandfather of Riley, step-great-grandfather of five, loved uncle to many nieces and nephews and father-in-law to Kathryn. He was pre-deceased by his brother Harry (Gladys). Survived by sisters-in-law Valery Rannells and Rose Horning. Born in Hamilton, Ont. to Edith and William, Jim served in the Reserve Army when still too young for active duty and later joined the Merritton Grenadiers marching band. He married his childhood sweetheart Priscilla and they came to St. Catharines in 1949. He started his working career in the automotive trade, becoming an agent for Canada Life Assurance at age 40. Jim enjoyed working in the financial industry for 41 years, retiring at age 81. With his positive attitude, Jim believed in service to others and with his warm personality his clients also considered him a friend. He was past President of the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow award, and was past President of Life Underwriters. Jim was also a life-long member of Westminster United Church. During their long and happy marriage, Jim and Priscilla enjoyed many years of travelling the world together as well as on their sailboat in Lake Ontario. Jim was diagnosed with cancer in Sept. 2006 and with a positive attitude, fought the good fight. He died peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital surrounded by family. Thank you to his caring doctors and nurses through both CCAC and the hospital.
