OBITUARY

John Argue

Born April 19, 1924

ARGUE, John Walter “Jack” – Peacefully, after spending Christmas day at home, surrounded by loving family on Monday, December 27, 2010. The Lord beckoned John home to be with his beloved wife Cecilia Elizabeth (2009). Devoted and loving husband for 58 years, loving father of Kevin Argue and Denise (Bill) Robertson, of Jordan Station. Cherished grandfather of Korry Walton, Ashleigh Walton (Matt), of Drumheller, Alberta and Dustin (Tara) Walton. Loving great-grandfather of Alexander and James Walton. Also survived by his sister Emily Knapman and her family of Hamilton and his brother in law Richard (Audrey) Nemeth and their family of Calgary. Jack was born in Hamilton 86 years ago, served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and after proudly serving while stationed in the Yukon, he became employed with the Canadian National Railways. He devoted 39 years to CNR as Manager of Express Centers in Ingersol, Paris, Woodstock, Owen Sound, Stratford, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Windsor, and Kitchener. He retired at the age of 55 and then became a salesman for CanPar in the Niagara Region for 10 years. Jack and Cecilia shared a passion for traveling, starting early in their marriage, traveling across Canada and the United States. As their children entered their lives, this interest was passed to their children and they all enjoyed trips and adventures together that took them to Ireland, England and other countries. Jack was as comfortable on the beaches of Florida, as he was visiting historic locations in Europe, having a pint of ale in the castles of Germany and Austria in the companyof “Barons” or having high tea in England with a “Lord”. Most of all, Jack liked to share his many travels with his grandchildren Korry, Ashleigh and Dustin who also inherited his love of family trips and adventures abroad. Family trips will always be remembered and treasured. Jack loved trains, both life size and also model trains, which he collected his entire life. Jack was a serious stamp collector from an early age and was a life member of the St. Catharines Stamp Club. He was also a member of the St. Catharines Probus Club. Jack was a dedicated member of the Brotherhood Anglican Churchmen at St. George’s Church. He was initiated on January 5, 1950 into the Wardrope Lodge #555 and affiliated with St. Andrews Lodge #661 in St. Catharines from June 27, 1980. He was a Past Master (1988) and obtained 32nd degree of A.A.S.R.. (Scottish Rite). Many thanks to Heidehoff Home, who adopted Jack to be an honorary member of the Friday afternoon “Jeopardy” club. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street (905-684-6346). Jack would come in to Crabtree Publishing every Friday to pick up envelopes and stamps that the staff would faithfully save for him. His visits were always a highlight. Jack always wore a smile to complement his twinkling eyes. He shared fascinating stories of his past, which he told with equal measures of passion and humour. Maybe slightly more humour. Over the years he became family: he knew many of us, and what was important to us as individuals, and we knew him, and the people and events that he held dear. He was part of the Crabtree Publishing Company's tapestry. We have missed him these past few weeks, and the news of his passing is very saddening.
On behalf of myself, and the others at Crabtree, sincere condolences to his family. He was a fine man, and a good friend.
