

Passed away peacefully at his home in Niagara-on-the-Lake on April 15, 2023 in his 101st year.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Yvonne Bruce and daughters Jan Rosamond (Tony Pulla), Shelley Wickabrod (the late Bernard McGee), Samantha Bruce, Emily Gratton (Patrick). Also missed by his son-in-law Karl Edler.
Beloved Grandfather to Greg Aloian (Janette Walsh), Jessica Aloian and Ronan Gratton. Great-grandfather to Callaghan Aloian. Also missed by several nieces and nephews.
John is predeceased by his daughter Nancy Aloian and son-in-law Bob Aloian as well as his first wife Pauline and his brothers Mike (Irene) and Gene (Mary).
John retired from the St. Lawrence Seaway as an Assistant Maintenance Superintendent in 1978. He was a Veteran of WWII serving with the Algonquin Regiment. In 2015 he received the National Order of the Legion of Honour medal from the Government of France.
In his retirement John had a passion for gardening and looked forward to starting his seeds every March. His dogs always accompanied him in the garden and supervised his work. He will be missed by his dogs Hershey and Patsy and numerous granddogs.
John’s family would like to especially thank Dr Tim Bastedo for his excellent care. Also, the representatives of the LHIN, the nurses, PSW’s and all others involved in John’s care from Paramed, St. Elizabeth, CBI and Bayshore.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation with a private interment will take place. There will be a celebration of John’s life at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124, 410 King Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday, April 22nd from 2-4PM.
Donations to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124 or the Lincoln County Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.
