Juanita Rathbun

May 16, 1928 - October 5, 2014 -

Predeceased by her dear husband Bill Rathbun (d.2001). Much loved mother of Nancy Hartwell (Paul d. 2013), Bob (Dianne), Doug (Winn) and devoted grandmother to Heather and James. Dear sister-in-law to Fredda McKie. Juanita graduated from McMaster University in1949 before marriage, had a family, and continued her education at Lakeshore Teachers College in 1963. She earned her Master of Science in Education from Niagara University in 1980. Hired as a primary teacher by the Lincoln County Board of Education, she became a speech teacher and retired as a special education consultant. Juanita was an honorary member of the Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario and past provincial president of the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario. She was an active member at First Grantham United Church. Juanita loved music and enjoyed playing the piano at church in St. Catharines and Florida. She was also an accompanist for the School Belles. Juanita was at her happiest arranging her musical afternoons with friends and family. It's difficult to believe that Juanita is gone. She was such a dynamic person; everyone thought of her as invincible.

Juanita’s family will receive friends on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church St. (905-684-6346). A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at First Grantham United Church, 415 Linwell Rd. (905-935-5369). Cremation has taken place.
