With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Kathie Herr on November 14, 2022. Devoted and loving wife to her late husband Murray of 50 years. Beloved Mother of Jennifer (Paul), Rebecca (Colin), and her late son Gordon. Cherished Grandmother of Cierra, Joseph (Ashton), Justin, and Brittany (Sean). Adoring Great Grandmother to Sadie, Madison and Chloe. Kathie was a most treasured sister of Kent Mainse (Shirley), and loving Aunt to nieces Christine and Susan (Rob). Kathie will also be missed by dear sisters-in-law Maxine Morrison, Shirley Herr and Monnie Bales. Loved by many nieces and nephews. Kathie was blessed to have dear friends Suzie and Doug Melville, Bonnie and Dave Miller and Jo-Ann Sacco, who stood by her through many difficult days and were there to share happy moments as well.
Kathie was born in Brockville on August 16,1944 to Dr. Arnold Kent Mainse and his treasured wife Irene. Kathie was raised in Athens, a small town in Eastern Ontario. After her graduation as Valedictorian from Albert College School in 1964, she went on to graduate Teachers College in 1965. It was shortly after she moved to Vineland to take a teaching job at an elementary school, that she was set up on a blind date with Murray. Kathie knew instantly that she had met the man of her dreams, and they married in 1967. Kathie and Murray lived in St. Catharines where they raised their 3 children. In 1981 Kathie returned to school and graduated as an RN, with honours in 1984. Kathie was offered a position with the Niagara Regional Health Unit as a Public Health Nurse, and spent her entire career there. Kathie’s impact on the community and children in her care during this time was immeasurable. She embodied the meaning of empathy and service to others. Kathie was the heart and soul of her family and was much loved. She not only guided the lives of her children, but also those of their friends, who called her their “other” Mom.
Kathie’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to her many caregivers, but most notably her CBI PSW Fatima, and the many Visiting Nurses from SEH and CarePartners who assisted her through this past year.
The family will receive family and friends at the Hulse and English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church Street on Thursday, November 24, 2022 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm for visitation, with memorial service to immediately follow in the chapel. Interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Care in Kathie’s honour. Please consider sharing a story or memory of Kathie below for the family.
