It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Lillian May Splonick (nee Thompson) on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the age of 100 years. Predeceased by her loving husband Walter Omar Splonick (2013) and her “larger than life” grandson Gary Walter Richard Splonick (2022). She will be dearly missed by her son Gary (Lynda), her daughter Susan (Sonny) Borghese, her grandsons Shane (Jessie) and Ryan (Fawn), her granddaughters Hilary and Katie; as well as six great-granddaughters.
Lillian met her beloved Walter during World War II where she had joined the Wrens and served her country proudly. When she was asked, she told everyone she was honoured to be a Veteran. Lillian immigrated after the war to join Walter at his family’s farm in Port Arthur. Being a city girl they eventually decided to relocate to St. Catharines where they raised their children. Lillian was a very resourceful woman who made all her own clothes and was an excellent seamstress and knitter.
During her later years, she was called the “Slipper Lady” as she made slippers for everyone she met. During her last two years she was a resident at Chateau Gardens in Niagara on the Lake, where she was lovingly cared for by their excellent staff. A special thanks to Maureen, Lisa, Tammy, and the many great nurses and personal support workers for their compassionate care.
In keeping with Lillian’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service celebrating Lillian’s life will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church St. St. Catharines. Family and friends will be received for the hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations made to either Vets Canada or The Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family. Online tributes may be made at www.hulseandenglish.com.
