ZEST (n): Living life with gusto. Artist, Musician, Writer, Athlete, Comedian, Brother, Sweetheart, Son…and so much more
Mac Merritt lived his life with zest and left our world peacefully surrounded by family on Monday December 11.
Mac the Athlete kicked off his hockey career as a 5-year old Timbit and powered through the next 13 years scoring, assisting and spending waaaayyy too much time in the penalty box. He won many championships but one of Mac’s proudest moments was receiving the 2007/08, Ontario Alliance Hockey Championship gold medal from Walter Gretzky. Mac won the 2012 golf tour for St. Catharines Collegiate and excelled in cross-country, soccer, skateboarding and parkour.
Mac the Artist spent his days creating. He was a gifted writer and one hell of a cook. Through his passion for urban art, Mac left his mark with brilliant colour and true zest, and used his natural talent for transferring Life into Art by designing tattoos, creating murals and painting canvases to share with his huge network of friends and family.
Mac the Cherished Son of Patricia Vollick and Scott Merritt & Tammy Locke and Grandson of Margaret Walmsley, Ronald (Marie) Vollick, Joan (Art) Hodges and David & Dyanna Merritt. Devoted partner of Amanda Nisbett and his little buddy Russell. Loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins and his sacred crew of brothers and sisters. Mac cherished each and every one of you.
In honour of Mac’s wonderful spirit and huge heart, we ask that each of you pay forward a small kindness. Buy a stranger a coffee or clean off someone’s windshield and be sure to tell them, “This is from Mac”. And please register as an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/TeamFundraisingPage.aspx?teamID=786389#&panel1-4
