Born February 13, 1936 in Glasgow, Scotland, died August 6, 2024 in St. Catharines, Ontario. Beloved wife of 50 years to the late Jim Elder (2012). Devoted and adored mother to Lindsay, Karen (Tim) and Kendall (Jeremy). Loving grandmother to Lincoln, Sawyer and Miller. Predeceased by her parents, Jimmy and Rose Anne, and brother Jim (Anne), and identical twin sister Rose (Jerry). Fondly remembered by her sisters Elizabeth (David), and June (David) and her many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a class act all the way. She enjoyed her childhood growing up in Glasgow, though even with her twin sister – sometimes marched to the beat of her own drum. A teenage opera lover, avid reader, and cook – she became a hairdresser in her late teens and the Duff twins were renowned for their style and talent. Marriage to Jim in 1961 brought the young couple to North America, ultimately settling in to New Brunswick, where all three of her daughters were born. Jim’s work with the shipyards, brought them to Collingwood, Montreal and finally St. Catharines.
Margaret devoted her life to her husband and daughters, and we are all so much richer for having been raised by such a remarkable woman. Our dad will be delighted to have his Big Duff back, but the rest of us will long mourn the passing of this beautiful and special soul.
The family extends a special thanks to the wonderful support provided by Rosehill Lane and Ontario Health at Home.
Visitation on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until the Service in Celebration of Margaret’s life at 2:00 p.m. at Hulse & English Funeral Home and Chapel, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines.
