CLEVE, Martin Harold - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Harold Cleve on October 18, 2017 three days after celebrating his 55th birthday and after a long, brave battle with Huntington's Disease and head injuries sustained from his bicycling accident. Loving father of Melanie Cleve, Erik Cleve and Alexander Cleve. Dear brother of Doris Cleve (St. Catharines) and Robert Cleve (British Columbia). Survived and remembered lovingly by the mother of his children, Colleen Cleve, to whom he was married for twelve years. Sadly missed by his best friend, Julia Pollard. Will be greatly missed by many other relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents, Horst Cleve and Irmagarde Cleve. Martin is fondly remembered for his love of nature, music, bicycling and sailing. Martin was a very sociable, outgoing, generous person who, as one friend put it, "could sell ice to the Eskimos". He had a love of life and had two mantras that he lived by, "Stop and smell the flowers" and "If pigs can fly, so can I", a testament to his belief that anything was possible. Thanks for the wonderful care from St. Catharines General Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital, Marie Brophy from the Alzheimer's Society, Maike Zinabou from the Huntington's Society and Sandra Wilson from Community Services. Visitation will be held at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines (905-684-6346) on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 1pm to 3pm with a funeral service to follow. Donations to the Huntington's Society or to the Acquired Brain Injury Program (Hamilton Health Services) would be appreciated by the family.
