The children of Mike Curran would like to announce the passing of their father in his 81st year, on June 18, 2025, with his daughter by his side and the Irish Rovers playing in the background, at the Niagara Health-Marotta Family Hospital in St.Catharines.
The youngest son of Francis and Ada (Robbins) Curran, he was predeceased by his six siblings: Mary Isabel (Stanley) Carleton, John (Marian) Curran, Charles (Marion) Curran, Patricia (Joe) Barr, Katherine (Bill) Maughan, and Lynn (Lloyd) Packer.
Mike married twice to Linda Thibert (Prudom) and Coralee Curran (Atkinson) and was the proud father of Colleen Curran-Fotopoulos (Gordon Frey), Joseph Curran (Susana Junco), Katie (Curran) Priebe (Chris Sparks) and Michael Curran (Angela) and grandfather to Mathew & Nicholas Fotopoulos (Colleen), Joseph Jr. & Connor Curran-Junco (Joseph), Parker, Sage & Megan Priebe, Jackson Spalding, Cierra, Addison & Charles Sparks (Katie), Aiden, Sophie, Emma & Oliver Curran (Michael). Mike loved to see his great-granddaughter Lyllian Fotopoulos and they had some fun visits over the last year getting to know each other.
Mike was a licensed pipefitter by trade and started his working days in Dow Chemical in Sarnia, Ontario but travelled to many different areas of Canada from Prince Rupert, BC to Calgary AB and to the East Coast as well for work opportunities. He was extremely curious and read everything he could get his hands on. He announced that he had read every book in the local library through the covid years to stay sane. Mike came from a proud Irish background and was one of many cousins who played the guitar. He was well known for taking his guitar to different gigs and playing traditional folk songs and entertaining the crowds and even in his later years frequented the local music shop to buy instruments for his grandsons & his great-granddaughter. He passed the love of music and his Irish heritage on to his family.
Over the past 20 years, Mike has been a resident of St. Catharines, Ontario and was beloved by his neighbours. From helping out as emergency babysitter for a single parent or purchasing ‘too many groceries’ for his own use, he was a great friend in his last years: kind and generous. He will be greatly missed by his friends on Richardson Court.
Cremation has taken place, and Mike will be interred in Lakeview Cemetary, Sarnia, Ontario. A memorial service will be held later this summer in the Sarnia area. If desired, a memorial donation can be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, St.Catharines, ON.
