Miklos "Mike" Duranyik

Peacefully passed away in his sleep on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Linhaven Home at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Shirley. Remembered by his children: Mike Duranyik, Kim Mowbray (the late Bruno Casagrande) and Paul (Megan) Duranyik. Dear Grandpa of Brittany, Alex, Isabelle, Jacob, Mason and Samuel, as well as two great-grandchildren: Nicolas and Mikey Karras. Survived by his brother Geza (Natavia) Duranyik as well as his extended family in Hungary and Canada.

Mike was born and raised in Hungary and came to Canada in his late teenage years due to oppression in Hungary. He was the exact middle child of nine children. He married his beautiful wife Shirley (nee Hall) in 1963 and they settled in Hamilton. They moved to Grimsby in 1972, and after Mike’s retirement they settled in Ridgeway. They expanded their family in 1968 with the birth of Michael, 1970 with Kimberly and finished it in 1976 with Paul.

He was a tool & die maker by trade and worked for International Harvester until he retired after 39 years because they moved the plant to Mexico. He took great pride in the outside of his home planting various flowers and plants to show off to whoever wanted to see. He grew outstanding varieties of roses. He also planted and tended to a massive vegetable garden. He grew the best heirloom tomatoes ever! He also grew raspberries, an apricot tree and a peach tree. He grew grapes, hazelnuts and a variety of other things that most people wouldn’t even dream of. He spliced apple trees and created his own variety. He was always happy to share with loved ones and if you asked him a question, he would give you an extended tour of his harvest.

Mike had an extremely strong work ethic and took great pride in caring for his family through the years. Mike was definitely a tough love kind of man, but he would do anything for his wife and kids.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Details for a Celebration of Life service are not finalized yet. Details will be added to this site once everything is confirmed.
