It is with profound love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Mira Vrcek on September 27, 2025 at 1:10 PM, at the age of 81. A woman of quiet strength and fierce devotion, Mira was the steady center of our family, thoughtful, practical, and endlessly caring.
Born in Varazdin, Croatia on July 25, 1944, Mira was the beloved wife of the late Antun (“Tony”) Vrcek (2005). She was the cherished mother of Kristian (“Kris”) Vrcek and the late Mario Vrcek (Good Friday, April 18, 2025). For years, Mira was Mario’s tireless caregiver, organizing appointments, advocating with doctors, and offering the kind of day-to-day compassion only a mother can give. Their bond was unbreakable; we take comfort knowing they are reunited.
Mira’s kindness extended well beyond her home. She is remembered with love by her extended family in Canada and Croatia, including the Vrcek, Dvorski, and Sekelj families. She is mourned by Mladen Sekelj and his children Veljko and Sanja Sekelj; by dear cousins in Winnipeg and Croatia, Veljko (Marcia) Dvorski, and Betty—as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins across Canada and Croatia. She is also fondly remembered by Tony’s sisters and brothers in Croatia, Maria, Vera, Kristina, Josip, Gabrijel, Marijan, and Božidar and by the wider family who kept close across oceans and years.
“Sve što nas je učila sada nas drži za ruku: da budemo skromni kad pobijedimo i hrabri kad padnemo, da se sjetimo molitve i kad smo umorni, da ostavimo svijet malo mekšim nego što smo ga zatekli. Ako tako živimo, bit ćemo joj uvijek blizu.”
Everything she taught us now holds our hand: to be humble when we win and brave when we fall, to remember prayer even when tired, to leave the world softer than we found it. If we live this way, we will always be close to her.
Our family is deeply grateful to the nurses, PSWs, and care staff who supported Mira with compassion and respect.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, October 6, 2025 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm at Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines, Ontario. A funeral will take place on Tuesday, October 7, at 11:00am in the Hulse & English Funeral Chapel with A rite of committal following at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, 431 Queenston St, St. Catharines.
