April 18, 1913 - May 13, 2017 -
Passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Toronto, at the age of 104 years. As stated on her birth certificate, Wilma was born in Galt, Waterloo Co. Loving daughter of the late Herbert and Rita Webb. Wilma was the sister of Lauraine (Allan) Elderkin and Ross (Shirley) Webb. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Wilma was formerly a member of Welland Avenue United Church and Royal York Road United Church.
Wilma was a kind-hearted and light-hearted individual. She was wired for joy and every time she spoke she had a bit of laughter at the end of her sentence. Wilma was an immaculate dresser and even up until the very end she would always be seen wearing her favourite coral lipstick and a pair of earrings to accent her outfit, thanks to her caretakers Sherry and Tenzin. She also had a standing appointment every two weeks with Teresa at the salon in her residence. Wilma kept her perfect posture and petite figure by walking whenever she could, and did so, until she lost most of her sight and hearing as she neared 100.
In her younger years, Wilma used her voice to be part of a choir and her legs to skate. As a young girl, she loved to help care for her younger brother Ross. Wilma always spoke highly of her sister Lauraine and in their later years they lived together in Toronto and sported matching fur coats at the Sunday service. Wilma loved to tell the story of a time in her early teens where she drove the family car to Owen Sound with her dad who gave her directions from the passenger's seat with his leg in a cast. During tough economic times Wilma worked hard to make money for her family and landed jobs at a local jewelry store and then Ridley College before finally getting a position with a ball bearing company, in the St. Catharines area. At the age of 70, she retired as the company's Director.
Wilma was loved by those who had the pleasure of meeting her and taught many of us that being kind hearted, light hearted and loving is a choice. Job well done Wilma. We should all walk a mile in your shoes.
In keeping with Wilma’s wishes, cremation has taken place. She will be buried at Victoria Lawn Cemetery with her parents. Arrangements entrusted to HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church St. (905-684-6346). Online tributes may be made at www.hulseandenglish.com
