The Brock University community is mourning the loss of recently retired Professor Raafat Roubi, who died Thursday, Aug. 27.
Roubi joined Brock University in January 1991 and spent the next three decades teaching courses in external reporting and financial accounting with the Goodman School of Business. He was a member of the Master of Accountancy program committee, Brock University Senate and advisory committee of the CPA/Goodman Institute for International Issues in Accounting. His list of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations is extensive. He retired in April 2020.
Before joining Brock, Roubi held academic appointments at Memorial University of Newfoundland; University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan; Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi; and Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt.
Roubi earned a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Business Administration in Accounting from University of North Texas as well as a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Ain Shams University.
“The Goodman School of Business has lost a significant contributor to who we are today,” said Goodman Dean Andrew Gaudes. “Although my own time and personal interactions were brief in comparison to many, I saw Raafat as gentle, kind and sincere. He was generous with a smile and positive in demeanour. I extend deepest sympathy to all who knew Raafat.”
