She was born and lived her long and vibrant life in St. Catharines, the daughter of the late Ernest and Millie Ruddle, and treasured sister of Beverley Belliveau and the late Evelyn Rose. Married for 58 years to the love of her life, the late Ross Chamberlain, Shirley raised four loving children, Carolyn (John) Denstedt of Komoka, Ontario, Paul (Laurie) of St. Catharines, Glenn (Karen) of Halifax, NS and Jill (Bill) Salton of St. Catharines. She was blessed with wonderful grandchildren Sean, Emily, Sarah, Catherine, Hannah, Ellen, Matthew, Bill and Alex, and four great grandchildren.
Shirley was a devoted member of the congregation of St. George’s Anglican Church, and an enthusiastic member of the altar guild. She thrived in her later years among the community at Ina Grafton in St. Catharines, playing cards, enjoying outings and making many friends. Her passion for horticulture was well known and saw her recognized with a Trillium Award from the City of St. Catharines for her remarkable and varied garden at the long-time family home.
A service of remembrance for Shirley will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 83 Church Street, St. Catharines on Thursday October 18th at 11 am, followed by a reception in the church hall.
