He is survived and mourned by his wife Shaila, sons Sitaram (Monika) and Hemant (Brenda), grandchildren Zoë and Max, sister Shyamala (Raghunandan), brother Vishvanata, sister-in-law Uma (Bhaskara) and many nieces and nephews in India, the U.S. and the U.K.
Giri was born in Chennai, India, the 8th child of a prominent lawyer. As one of eleven children, he excelled academically at physics but chose to leave India, completing his second degree in Scotland after which he met and married his love, Shaila in 1960. The couple emigrated to Canada in 1966 where he had a long career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Longueuil, as a specialist in mechanical stress fatigue. Never one to look back, he fully embraced life in Canada, while still retaining his affinity for the food and classical music of South India.
Giri loved people, laughter, and a lively debate, but what characterized him best was his unshakeable optimism: he always encouraged others and was not afraid to face adversity.
He will be missed as a husband, friend, and father, but most of all as an uncanny force of nature to those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date when we can gather safely. In the interim, messages and memories can be left at the website https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/st-lambert-qc/bantval-seshagiri-rao-9185357
