Baptized in the hope of Christ’s resurrection, Catherine Maes Frain died peacefully Nov. 27th at Nazareth Living Center. Preceded in death by her parents Percy F. and Catherine King Maes, her husband William Frain Jr., she is survived by her sister, Loretto F. Maes, c.pp.s., cousins and dear friends.
A graduate of St. Elizabeth Academy and St. Louis University, Catherine dedicated most of her life to teaching on the elementary and high school level. She was especially apt in making a positive difference in the lives of her students, especially those in difficulty. Her teaching career brought her into both the St. Louis Archdiocesan schools and the St. Louis Public Schools. She taught in the following Archdiocesan schools: St. Clement of Rome, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Laboure High School, Epiphany of Our Lord and St. Engelbert. In the St. Louis Public School System she taught at Woodward School and Blow Middle School, the latter where she concluded her teaching career. In addition to the classroom she reached out to youth through summer playground programs and summer camp. She also worked for several years at the St. Louis Juvenile Court where she faced the challenge of helping troubled youth.
For ten years Catherine was a member of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul with the religious name of Sister Duchesne. As a Daughter of Charity she taught at St. Patrick School in LaSalle, Illinois and St. Vincent High School in Perryville, Missouri.
To her family and all who knew and loved her, Catherine’s (aka Cathie or Kate) care and concern for others leaves a legacy to cherish.
