Donald Patrick Flanagan, PhD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the age of 88.

Donald was the beloved brother of Terry (Jane) Flanagan; wonderful uncle of Brian Flanagan and Dr. Cary (John) Peel; devoted great-uncle of Jack Peel, Brady Flanagan, Braden Peel, and Bailey Flanagan; dear friend of Michelle Flanagan and many others in his lifetime.

Don is a graduate of St. Francis de Sales high school, and he continued his education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) earning a BS degree in Education and was a proud alumnus; he continued his education earning his MS and a PhD degree in Education from St. Louis University. Don had a long and devoted career in the Ladue School District as a Counselor from 1968-1972, Coordinator in Special Services, 1972-1982, Director of Special Services 1982-1985 and as Principal of Reed Elementary School from 1985 to his retirement in 1996.

Don deeply cared for his students, their families, staff and his community in the Ladue School District and was proud of his accomplishments during his tenure having received many accolades.

After retirement Don devoted much time and his efforts in volunteer work to several charities.

Donald was a loving and generous man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
