James Paul Landolt

Born on August 5, 1954 in St. Louis, MO, Shem was one of a kind in both name and essence. He proudly attended St. Louis University High School (‘72) and The University of Missouri where he earned a bachelor’s degree to become an occupational therapist. He touched many lives throughout his career, and even met his beloved wife of 40 years, Kate, while working at Jewish Hospital.

One of Shem’s greatest sources of pride were his two cherished children Luke and Anna. He never missed an opportunity to tell anyone, friend or stranger, about his kids and his love for them.

Shem led his life with a great kindness and empathy for others. A lifelong friend to many, people were drawn to his gentle and benevolent spirit.

Anyone who met Shem knew music was one of the great loves of his life. He enjoyed music of all genres and eras, and shared it with others at any opportunity. We are grateful that we will always find connection to Shem through music.

Shem is preceded in death by his parents John F. Landolt and Mary Jane Hely. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, children Luke (Emilie) Landolt and Anna (Josh) Zack, siblings John F. (Abigail) Landolt Jr., William K. (Jeri) Landolt, Thomas S. Landolt, Beth Amsler, Joseph M. (Margaret) Landolt, David P. (Patricia) Landolt, and Lucy A. Landolt.

Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the gift of Shem’s life and the example he set. He volunteered much of his time and energy to the St. Louis University High School Alumni Association. Visitation will be held at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street, St. Louis, MO 63109, US, on July 27, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Memorial Service will take place at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street, St. Louis, MO 63109, US, on July 28, 2026, at 10:00 am.

A Committal Service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63125, US, on July 28, 2026, at 11:00 am.
