Jean Ida Layton

Loving wife of the late James Leonard Layton; loving mother of Mary Kathleen (John) Porbeck and James Leonard Layton, Jr.; dear cousin, neighbor and friend.

Jean inspired many lives as a President of Bayless School District Mother’s Club and retired as Supervisor of Histology at Deaconess Hospital. Jean was raised at Salvator Evangelical and Reformed Church, and in 1949 began a life of service to Union United Methodist Church as Trustee, Secretary, Council of Ministries, member of Choir and Bell Choir, Chair of Worship and Music Committees, Sunday School teacher and Bible Study teacher. Jean has been a member of the Bach Society Choir. She was also a member of the St. Louis Astronomical Society. Jean volunteered as a reader at Radio Information Services at Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, and recorded many books for Talking Books for the Blind.

Visitation will be held at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa at Watson on Fri., July 8, 2011 from 3-8:00 PM and at Union United Methodist Church, 3543 Watson on Sat., July 9, 2011 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Union United Methodist Church Organ Fund or Heifer International are appreciated.
