

Holway, Joseph P., of St. Louis, MO, went to heaven on Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the age of 91. Devoted husband of Anna Marie (Burkemper) since October 1947. Loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and step-grandfather to: Joanne & John Schoemehl, Don & Jacob Madden, John Schoemehl, Jan, Michael & Amanda Selck, Marnie, George & Matthew Velazquez; the late George & (Diana survives) Holway, Paul, Vicky, Will & Elise Holway, Susan, Mike, Megan & Emily Maher, Lindsey, Chuck, Lila & Brady Smith; Jerry & Mary Holway, Jeremy, Jen, Abbie & Molly Holway, Chris, Cathy, Evan & Nathan Holway, Fr. Craig Holway, Laura, Rich, Kayla, Tyler, & Lexi Lewis; Tom Holway (of Portland, OR); Denny Holway; Mary, Ray, Susan & Mary Beth Skosky, Cate, Tim & Clara Rudder, Andy & Leah Skosky; Pam Holway; Bob, Johanna, Aliyah, Rebekah, & Lukas Holway, Caleb, Kyla & Carter Thomas; Barbara, Brian, Alex & Lorelei Cioffi.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, George and Minnie (Joseph) Holway, and his siblings. He was a beloved brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many.
He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army (Air Force) during World War II in the India Burma Campaign. He was proudly retired from the U.S. Postal Service (Inspection Service) and loved to tell stories about his time there throughout his 30 years in retirement. He was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church & School community for over 60 years and served as an Usher for over 50 years. He was a member and officer of the Carondelet Pinochle Club. He was a life-long fan of playing, coaching, and watching baseball, going all the way back to Sportsman’s Park. He was a natural athlete and the sought-after washers partner at family gatherings.
He will be remembered fondly and missed dearly. Special thanks to Vitas Hospice for all their caring love and support.
Services: Funeral from HOFFMEISTER COLONIAL MORTUARY, 6464 Chippewa, st. Louis, MO 63109, Wednesday, August 1, 9:15 am to St. Cecilia Catholic Church with the celebration of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. the interment will follow with full military honors in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday at Hoffmeister Colonial from 4-8 pm.
