Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald M. Hanna. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jill (Mark) Pagano; her treasured grandchildren, Jordyn Bozich and Ava Pagano, who knew her as “Nana”; her nephew, Chad (Stephanie) Smith; and all her special family and friends. Karen was preceded by her parents, Bobby and Ethel Smith; her brother Donald Smith; aunts, uncles, sister in-law, many friends, and all her cherished fur babies.
Karen was born in St. Louis and attended Southwest High School. After high school Karen met Ron through her brother Don Smith and they married on August 8, 1970. Together on October 23, 1971 they had their daughter Jill. They built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter.
Even after Ron’s passing in 2023, Karen continued to hold him close to her heart, loving him every day until they were reunited once again.
Karen was an employee at Southwest Bank for many years before working as a City Clerk for Bella Villa.
Karen enjoyed spending time with her family. She found her greatest happiness being a grandmother. She treasured every moment she spent making memories with Jordyn and Ava. Karen loved taking trips to Branson with her loving husband Ron. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, Charley and Hudson. She had a lifelong love for dogs and opened her heart to all furry companions.
Karen enjoyed decorating and making everything cozy. She also enjoyed getting her hair done and always appreciated life's simple pleasures. Karen's happiest moments were those shared with people she loved the most.
Karen will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering love for her family, her warm smile, and the countless memories she created with those she loved. Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will continue to live on through her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will dearly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street, St. Louis, MO 63109, US, on August 12, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary on August 13, 2026, at 12:00 pm.
Committal will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125, US, on August 13, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stray Rescue of St. Louis or Greater St. Louis Honor Flight.
