She was the loving wife of the late Marcellus Ignatius "Marc" Blow and the late Herbert Hersel Sullivan; dear mother of Janet (David) Hartley, James (Scott) Sullivan, Jeanne (Pat) Van Fleet, and John (Jeanne) Sullivan; cherished grandmother of Clayton Blake Hartley and Andrew David Hartley; devoted great-grandmother of Connor, Camryn, Gia, and Broxton; dear sister of Lee O. (the late Nona) Fitzmaurice; dear friend of Tony Borghi who became her caregiver; dear aunt, great-aunt, and a friend to many in her lifetime.
LaVerne was grateful for the few years she spent at St. Domenico Italian Orphanage with her brother, Lee, beginning in 1940 at the age of 10, where she learned life skills, found her love for cooking, had more opportunities and discovered the warmth of proper clothing. She considered the time some of the best of her childhood. Through the orphanage she was able to attend Rosati-Kain High School.
LaVerne loved to laugh, her family, birds, growing flowers, hanging out at the pool with Tony, making ravioli and chicken and dumplings, watching cooking shows, driving really fast, and reading the classics. She was generous, thoughtful, loving, and extraordinarily kind to everyone.
Until we meet again.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 19 from 10-11:30am at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street 63109. Funeral Service to follow at 11:30am in the chapel. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in LaVerne's memory to Wounded Warrior Project would be greatly appreciated by her family.
