Upon graduating from Lead High School and St. Olaf College, Arline spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Cologne, Germany, came back to the University of Minnesota for a master’s degree, and then spent two years with a market research company in Hamburg, Germany. Toward the end of that time, she became engaged to Merlyn Satrom, who was in Germany doing graduate study in theology. After their marriage they and their family lived in Marburg, Germany; Portland, Oregon; Los Angeles, California; and Oxford, England.
They returned to the Twin Cities in 1982. While Merlyn served as pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Arline worked in marketing research. She concluded her working life as Community Board Coordinator for CommonBond Communities. This experience led to her serving on the board of what was then Redeemer’s Arms apartment building and on the board of Applewood Pointe of Woodbury.
In retirement she participated in the Redeemer congregation and in activities of the Germanic-American Institute. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and traveling.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Ella Mae (Tull) Campbell; husband, Merlyn; and sister, Willamae Swenson.
Survivors include her brother, Colin Campbell (wife Diane); brother-in-law, Duane Swenson; children, Brian Satrom (Lian Partlow) and Ellen Satrom (Paul Hanstedt); grandchildren, William, Lucinda, and James Hanstedt; and nieces and nephews.
The Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 26 (with visitation at 10 a.m.), at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 285 Dale St. N, St. Paul.
