He was born in New Munich, Minnesota on August 3, 1938, to Claude and Elizabeth Schwieters, and was the fourth of five children. He spent his childhood growing up on a farm outside of St. Joseph, Minnesota. Arnold graduated from St. Cloud Cathedral High School before joining the United States Army in 1957. He deeply enjoyed his time and world travels while in the service until he was honorably discharged in 1960.
Following his military service, Arnold pursued his post-secondary education and launched a successful career in sales and purchasing at Package Furniture & Carpet. His final years of part-time employment were spent at Seestadt’s, where he took great comfort in a peaceful daily routine: opening the store each morning, reading the paper, and making sure he was home by noon for lunch.
Arnold met the love of his life, Linda Zimmer, and swept her off her feet at one of the many local dances. Surrounded by family and friends, they were married on June 30, 1964. The newlyweds eventually moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where they purchased their first and last home. Together, they raised four children and filled their house with decades of love, laughter, and happiness. An avid outdoorsman, Arnold cherished time spent fishing and hunting with his family and close friends. He enjoyed a good game of cards and going to the casino with his family.
His quiet, dependable, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of hard work, kindness, laughter, and, above all, an unwavering love for his family.
Arnold is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Linda; his children, John Schwieters, Paul (Lisa) Schwieters, Ann (Bob) Kirlin, and Mary (Jon) Webster; his grandchildren, Amanda, Brandon, Jack, Emily, and Erik; and his great-grandchildren, Morgan, Mason, Wells, and June. He is also survived by his two sisters, Maryann and Marlene. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Elizabeth, and his brothers, Clarence and Jerry.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 2119 Stillwater Ave E, Saint Paul, MN 55119 on Friday, September 25, 2026. The Committal Service will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, 803 Larpenteur Ave, Roseville MN 55113.
