The youngest child of Oscar and Pearl Celia (Olson) Ekwall, she is survived by her older sister, Irene Saline, of Sugar Hill, GA and the widow of her older brother Richard, JoAnn Ekwall, of Stillwater, MN. Deanna had three half-sisters from her mother's first marriage, Wanita, Bonita and Faith.
She leaves three generations of nieces and nephews who were all blessed by her love and generosity. Deanna never married and lived in the St Paul, MN area all her life. She lived with and cared for her mother Pearl, until her passing on January 18, 1995.
Deanna worked at West Publishing where she began in the stenography pool and eventually became a database specialist transcribing legal proceedings. A fast and proficient worker, her coworkers appreciated her skills and dedication. She retired in 2005 with a great send-off from her friends at work. Deanna loved animals and treasured her miniature poodle, Fred. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and especially liked giving gifts. She never forgot birthdays and loved to share her sense of humor and skill with words, writing poetry for family and friends.
Deanna experienced many challenges in her life, but they always caused her faith to grow. She was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness and perseverance when times were tough. Deanna lived her Christian faith daily. Her trust in Jesus Christ sustained her and encouraged those around her. When she was anxious, she found peace in turning to God and to His Word.
Although Deanna will be greatly missed, it is with joy that her family acknowledges her eternal life and security.
She is safely home.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Wulff Funeral Home, 1485 White Bear Avenue, St Paul at noon.
