Passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2011, surrounded by family. He was very proud of his military service, having enlisted in the Navy during World War II while obtaining his medical degree from the University of Minnesota. He also served in the Army as a Captain and Battalion Aid Surgeon with the 25th Infantry Division in the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star for valiant actions. As a family physician, his medical practice flourished for over 50 years on the East Side of St. Paul and Maplewood. Deno was known for his quick wit, gentle smile, quiet kindness and generosity. He enjoyed gardening, visiting the cabin, having coffee with the "Zipper Gang," fishing and reading. Most of all, he valued his friends and cherished time spent with his family. Preceded in death by his parents, Kleto and John, and by his son, John. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Caryl; his brother Chris (Joanie) of Seattle, WA and sister, Georgia (Bill) Keller of Pensacola, FL; children, Kirsten (Michael Welckle), Susan (Paul) Beaumaster, Chris (Kristine), Thomas (Barbara Guth), and Ruth (Kevin) Melchionne; grandchildren, Abe, Matthew, Sidney, Isaiah, Jack, Bella, Charlie, Will and Katie. Visitation Thu. 8/4 from 5-8 pm at Wulff Funeral Home, 1485 White Bear Ave., St. Paul. Funeral service Fri. 8/5 at 11 am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1390 E. Larpenteur Ave., St. Paul, with additional visitation 1 hour prior to service at church. Private interment at Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association or to the charity of your choice.
