Joe left us unexpectedly on Sunday morning, March 16, in a tragic car accident on his way to work. While we are grateful that no one else was harmed, the loss of Joe is immeasurable.
Joe was 68 years old—gone too soon—but we are forever grateful for the extra 6.5 years we had with him following his heart attack in 2018. He beat the odds and embraced every day since, appreciating life’s simple joys. He loved fishing, gardening, grilling, cooking, music, air shows, motorcycle rides, and gathering around the fire pit with family and friends, always eager to share stories and laughter. He had a passion for trying new recipes, and his sausage stuffing was legendary. More than anything, Joe found happiness in being with the people he loved.
Joe had a warmth that drew people in. Many said he had an incredible aura, and his striking eyes and full head of hair always left an impression. People felt at ease around him, comfortable sharing their thoughts, stories, and struggles. He had a way of taking everyone in, always wanting to help however he could. Whether through kind words, a listening ear, or simply his steady presence, Joe made people feel seen and valued.
He was an incredibly proud father, grandfather, and stepfather. He loved sharing updates about his kids and grandkids—everyone who spoke to him knew what they were up to because he couldn’t help but brag about them. Growing up, he left sweet notes in our shoes, wrote poems, and never missed a chance to say, “I love you.” That love carried through to his marriage, where he and his wife exchanged loving morning notes each day—simple yet meaningful reminders of the love and gratitude they shared.
His kindness, warmth, and unwavering love left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. To have known Joe was to have been loved wholeheartedly. As we grieve his loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the love he shared.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Bluemke and Laura Petzel; stepfather, Harvey Petzel; son, Mark Bluemke; and brother, Kenneth Bluemke. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 15 years, Lisa Bluemke; daughters from his first wife: Jennifer (John) Taft and Tricia (Neil) Furman; and granddaughters, Bryn Taft, Makena, Molly, and Hannah Furman. Through Lisa, he gained daughters whom he loved as his own: Crystal Schintz, Rachel (John) Sniadajewski, Kayla Schintz, and Amber Schintz; grandson, Dimitri Anderson; sisters and brother-in-law, Joan and Dave Schroeder, and Agnes Bluemke; along with other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 24 from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at the Savage Legion to honor Joe’s memory and ensure his spirit lives on in our hearts. Those attending are encouraged to share short memories and moments that made them happy or amused—stories that reflect Joe’s warmth, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Rest in peace, Joe. May you always find the perfect fishing spot, the best beer on tap, and endless love wherever you are. You are deeply missed and forever loved.
