My Love,

About 4 hours before your sudden transition to glory, you sent me this picture (taken about 7 years prior) and it is your last earthly communication with me before your untimely passing. I have been trying to process the shrouded message that this picture is meant to purposefully convey but haven't been able to. 

Six months have gone by and it feels like just yesterday that I received that devastating news that you were gone.  I promptly stopped the doctors midsentence...  The pains - still there and I feel numb sometimes. You left me with a lot of beautiful memories and that has helped me through this period. I started grief counselling in church and I am struggling because it is so surreal speaking about you in past tense. Most times I broke down and cry...yes I cry like a baby! Life has not been the same without you and I don't know if there is a possibility of returning to normalcy anytime soon.

By the amazing grace of GOD, Mom is doing fine and I am in touch with her every week or at most two weeks. Arith and I have been talking every week and it helps our mutual healing process. I am in touch with Dave too. His daughter Marie (your niece) had a shoulder surgery early this year. We missed your motherly cum professional counsel and directives during the procedure. Onenu is doing fine and we are in touch too and as usual she gets to enjoy the benefits of spending more time with Mom. Oboro just had a baby yesterday. I imagine how ecstatic you would have been about this news.

I continue to intentionally pray for the repose of your soul and hope that you continue to pray for us.  I am trusting the LORD for HIS eternal light, mercy and peace on you and healing on all of us still living.  It's so sad and I weep as I write this. You were just a shining light that got extinguished too soon. Thank you for being the light of GOD to my life; the same way you did to everyone whom you met and interacted with: at home, church, work and community.

I thank GOD for the grace and honor of being the best friend, companion and husband of an extraordinary lady 

Your faith in the LORD was unshakable and uncompromising as you lived by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). You sacrificed your time and personal comfort for the benefit of others even those you never met and knew. It hurts to speak of you in the past tense and I don't know how to make peace with your demise. You lived a short but highly influential life positively impacting lives with your kind gestures, words, support and prayers. You were so emotionally tender that you shed tears when watching true life movies that I sometimes had to remind you that it was an act. I am depending on the LORD Almighty to carry me through this wilderness of desolation and confusion.

Our favorite season of the year is here and it will not be the same; the painful thought of celebrating Christmas without you is unimaginable. I am always enthralled by your energy and efforts to decorate and add to the color, glow, music and peace that accompanied Christmas each year urging me to set up the lightning. You have fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith (1 Timothy 4:7) and you are now a citizen of the golden City of GOD. 

I love you and will always relive the beautiful and amazing memories we created. I thank the LORD for giving me the honor of being the husband of such an extraordinary wife even for the very short time we shared. I hope you are enjoying the presence of the LORD worshiping and glorifying HIM alongside the host of angels with that remarkably beautiful voice of yours just as you always did while you were on earth and received compliments.

Today is our wedding anniversary and this week was supposed to be "our week" celebrating 11 beautiful years of marriage. Coming to terms with your demise has been the most difficult decision of my life. The harsh reality that you are gone and I would never see you in this life again hurts terribly. I am not supposed to question the LORD but I must confess that I have sinned by questioning the LORD why HE decided to take you suddenly and leave me a broken shell of despair. You were driven, committed, exciting, enthusiastic and passionate about everything you set out to do. 

A princess who never cared about the attractions of royalty; you were passionately committed to working hard to earn a living. You were my joy, my love, my heart and my best friend. Your absence has made life unbearable and I feel totally empty and isolated. You were my earthly angel and delightfully took great care of me making me feel unconditionally loved and treasured. It's unfortunate that the Health sector which you dedicated your life working since coming to the United States failed you when you needed attention and help that would have avoided your untimely demise. 


Mercy! Dear Mercy!
The news of your passing shocked me to my bones. A host of emotions washed over me. First, disbelief then sheer horror, then bargaining and praying that it not be true and when it finally dawned on me that it was, then came the sorrow and grief. 

I got to know you through your dear husband Franklin who loved you with every Fibre of his being. I remember the first time we spoke on phone,we connected 
instantly. You were so warm and had a way of making people feel at ease. We spoke like we had known each other for years.

Your love for your husband and your devotion to him was matchless. Frank gratefully remembers and recounts your many beautiful attributes.
You were a very special human being so loyal, kind and dear.

Mercy, the very many people whose lives you touched miss you dearly and remember your infectious laughter, tender smile, visible love for colors, your cheerful pleasant ways and your golden heart that won many friends. Why did you have to leave?

Through pains and disappointments, you remained kind, gentle and steadfast. Did you know you were really special and a godsend to all that met you? Your humility was infectious. Do you know you were appreciated and loved?
Thank you for the lives you touched for God. Thank you for the help you offered to those who asked and those who didn't. Thank you for remaining loyal to your wonderful husband and for showing him God's face through your love and devotion to him and your kind acts towards others.

Your beautiful life has come to an end but you still live on in the lives of those you touched. 

Mercy, you died as you lived, the best friend anybody could ever ask for. We will hold unto the memories we have of you and lean on one another for comfort believing that God not only superintends over the affairs of men but knows and loves you better and has welcomed you home.

Your departure from this world is painful and shocking. It is still very hard to believe that you are no more. 
We will think about you always and we will miss your beautiful smile and your sweet voice every time we meet. Thank you for all the memories and for loving your husband the way you did.

Part 2 of 2.
 ...None of us can emulate all the qualities of Mercy, but maybe there is one or to things that she embodied tht we can incorporate into our lives.  

For me, from this day forward, I will attempt to smile more (hopefully not in creepy way), and where something bright and cheerful.   (These are two very uncharacteristic things for me that I hope I can make more common place).

I feel incredibly lucky to have known Mercy here on earth.  It is my hope and aspiration that when others see my big bright (non creepy) smile, and wearing something bright and colorful (I  can't do the whole outfit thing), that they will not only see me, but see Mercy living in me.

It is also my hope that you Franklin, and all the the others that knew and loved Mercy, can do something similar, and allow us to see Mercy continue to live here on earth through you.

I truly hope my words comfort you in some way.  May we all remember this great woman by allowing her to live in us here on earth until we meet her again in heaven.

Part 1 of 2.
As humans, our life on Earth is short.  Mercy's life here on Earth was way too short.  We will all miss her dearly.  For myself, and likely most humans,  we would be happy to know if there was one destinctive positive quality that others would remember us by after our passing.  In reference to Mercy, I can think of many such qualities.  

The first is her complete and unwavering love for Jesus and her husband Franklin.   In truth, to lesser lesser degree, she seemed to have this same love to whomever came into her life.  She is so generous with her love. 

The second is her grace, charm, and intellect.  She combined these traits with us in all of our interactions with her.  Truly remarkable. 

The third was her love of life.  We all have our troubles and difficulties, I am Mercy did as well, but it never stopped her from lovig life and the people in it.  It definitely showed!

The forth was her impeccable outfits of bright and cheery colors.  I mentioned outfits, for nothing was ever just thrown together.  It was all a part of this  fabulous design she shared with us each and every day.  

The fifth is the sparkle in her eyes whenever we would see her and or talk to her.  You never wondered if she was happy to see you or if she was interested in what you had to say.  Her sparkling eyes assured you that she definitely did.

The sixth remarkable quality about Mercy that I will never forget is her smile. Man I love that smile.  She lit up every room she entered with that smile.

I have been speeking of Mercy in the present tense, for she is still with us in our memories.   In the qualities I have mentioned and others that many of you know about her that I do not.  She truly is a remarkable, and unforgettable person.  

Her death here on earth is a tragic and devastating blow to all of us but it is also an opportunity for us to allow her to continue to live here on earth through us.  ...

I remember when you tried my cornbread you loved it. Whenever uncle Frank comes in every family gathering and parties we would ask why you didn't come and he would say you're at school or studying for exams. We  would make sure to pack some cornbread for you whenever uncle Frank comes. We were so happy that you graduated and couldn't wait to see you more. The last day we saw you was the 4th of July at aunt Lucy's place.   
Your smile brought happiness to us and you will be missed by many.  May your soul rest in peace

With profound heartfelt sympathy, we the Yala Community Association, USA members want to express our deep condolence to the entire Igogo and Odu families on the painful passing of the Late Mrs. Mercy Elley Igogo. We know it is hard to fathom her passing but God knows when it is time.  
It is difficult to explain what the family is going through at this time but Jesus Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith is our only succor. At these difficult times, our thoughts and prayers are that God will console the family and grant mercy to her soul as she peacefully journeys to her heavenly home.
She will be remembered for her kindness, friendliness, and good deeds. May God accept her gentle soul. Amen

Aunty Mercy you left us with great memories and I will always remember you making everyone laugh. The bond that you had with my uncle anyone could see. It was a one-of-kind bond that will never be broken.  May all the great memories give us all peace and comfort. We will miss you, and  may you soul Rest In Peace.

Mercy, your sudden dead has left me speechless and I still can not believe that you have lefts us.  We are thankful to God for the time you were given here on earth to be with us. Patrick and I are saddened by Mercy's transition from this life. We are blessed and grateful to have known her. Mercy was beautiful both inside and outside. Her smile was so genuine. Patrick and I can rejoice knowing that Mercy is resting in the saviors arms.

I didn't get the opportunity to meet Mercy in person but my mind is full of images of you from pictures and stories of your kindness, support, and love.

Your departure has left your husband, lover, and friend wholly devastated. His painful grief over the phone got me crying uncontrollably. I called to be there for him through this tough time but became an emotional wreck myself. 
From the stories Franklin and I shared about you, you were definitely the best thing that happened to him. You were too loving, lovely, and loveable to have gone this soon. Mercy Igogo you will always be remembered for being a true lover of God and the people in your life. We grieve the loss of the future we look forward to but know indeed we have been blessed to have you tough our lives in the special ways you did. Rest in the bosom of the Lord God.

Greatest at this moment of trauma is my earnest plea for Divine peace and comfort to your family members both at home and abroad! It is with great shock that I received the news of the passing away of our beloved sister, Mercy. I am convinced you never spoke to anyone that you're fleeing away from this fleeting passing world. Nevertheless, your departure has sent a strong message, and echoed loud to our ears about God's words that all men are grass; we are all like the beautiful, morning flowers that fade away at the heat of the day! There's nothing anyone else can do. Truly, God brought , He has taken away and may His glorious name be praised. Farewell our dear sister.

We started this friendship with a ‘hello’ and never thought it will be ending so soon with a ‘goodbye’. You’ll remain in my heart "nne" as we fondly call each other. 
Death took you far away from me and it's so sad that I have to let go  unwillingly. You were a definition of a friend indeed. You’re a loving  friend and caring woman. Your willingness and commitment to helping those in need were second to none. Your heart was so warm and kind to everyone you came across. I never seem to forget the good memories we shared together and I can’t get them off my heart. Waking up from this reality that truly you are no more, seems impossible. Mercy you left us so soon, the memories of how you helped us when we arrived in Minnesota will never be forgotten. You brought us to church and took us back, you people fed us, provided solutions for all our problems, gave us television to watch. Became the brother we never had.

Mercy, your death came to me as another great shock in my life but who am I to question God. May your sweet soul continue to rest in perfect peace with the Lord until we meet again. Adieu Mercy.

I remember that beautiful day on  03/10/2022 in Orlando Florida  during our graduation. Mercy, you may be gone but you will forever live on in my heart. Those cherished memories I have of you will never fade . I feel blessed to have had you as a friend. I love you and will never forget all the times we shared. Rest In Peace.

May her beautiful and  ever smiling face continue to lighten your hears knowing that she has been gladly welcome home to God her Father whom she so much reverence while she was here.
