Dear family of Phi:  I remember Phil vividly because he managed
his father's house in Moorhead during my years in college there.
So sorry to hear of his passing.  I will remember him for his wit,
his laugh, and his dedication to family, especially Mike and Joel,
who I would love to track down.  Sorry this is so after-the-fact,
but I discovered Phil's passing just today.  God bless you all.

Visitation, last evening, and funeral today for my precious brother "Lanky." How to describe this man of many hats and many faces: Compassionate beyond measure (he would give you his last dime or the shirt off his back---not so sure he'd part with the one wrapped around his neck, however ;) ), predictably unpredictable, outrageously funny; sometimes an emotional train wreck, so he knew brokenness in himself and recognized it in others, and thus he spread the love of Jesus in word and deed wherever he was, along with marking crosses on anything and everything (whatever truck or car he was driving was a work of folk art, with crosses and sevens, his favorite number). No one could doubt that Jesus was his constant companion; he simply clung to our Good Shepherd, and invited the world to join him. He was the best teacher many children could have ever asked for; his love for the little ones knew no bounds. Named for Martin Luther's best friend, Philip Melanchthon, he was a friend indeed. Enter into the joy of the Lord, dearly beloved brother. I bet you never realized the big hole you'd leave behind in all our hearts!

Faith takes many forms. Lanky put his beliefs into practice. My rare moments of family gathering always impressed me with a man of humor, good will, joyful exhuberance in the Thompson Tribe. May his blessing continue as family practices a faithful followership of Word Made Flesh, our Lord Jesus.

Wow!  What a man.  Philip Thompson taught me the meaning of character, integrity, honesty and how to be a man of faith.  He was selfless.  Always caring about others before himself.  You won't find many like him.  He was a man of discipline.... a real prayer warrior.  A man who wrote me a hand written letter every year for 32 years just to keep in touch. Philip loved the Lord.  I will miss him. 

Rest in peace.  Until we meet again.

I miss you Uncle Lanky! Am at a loss for words. One of your favorite verses is Philippians 4:4 'rejoice in The Lord always, and again I say rejoice'....keeps me smiling through so many many tears.
