I hope your hearts find peace. He was a good family friend and the best god father a girl could ask for. My love goes out to your family. Thanks for the memories.

Dear Hughes family - my sincerest condolence in the loss of your husband, father, (great) grandfather, Richard. Dad always called him Dick, but mom oftentimes would refer to him as Richard. I too remember numerous summer vacations and picnics at local lakes. Everyone loved Dick! He was one of the nicest, kindest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He always stopped over to the house on Arkwright St. to visit dad, even making special trips when dad was so sick. Mom would always make sure she made something Dick liked, even though he loved everything mom cooked! When mom lived at Lakeview Commons, she was thrilled running into Dick one day. Once in a while, Dick would get out to play golf, so he'd ask mom to sit with Annie. Mom always said yes because it was Dick asking, even though it was painful and difficult for her to see Annie. A couple times I went to your parents apartment with my mom to see Annie. Mom missed her dear friend who she had known since childhood. Dick was such a wonderful caretaker! He regularly checked on mom, stopping at her apartment to make sure she doing OK. I will always cherish the memories of the time our families spent together, but especially the love and care Dick had for my parents.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dick. I wish I could of been at the funeral, I would of loved to see everyone. He was a big part of our lives growing up. I just loved him he was the sweetest.

Dear Annie, Linda, Sandy, Rick and extended family, It was with great sadness to learn of your beloved father's passing. Your parents were part of a wonderful bond of friendship and extended family since before all of us kids were born...they shared their lives together growing up in St. Paul, standing up for one another in their weddings & raising kids together... Oh the graduation parties & weddings! Then onto second jobs working side by side with Annie the excellent seamtress making beautiful drapes...our Dad's hanging them together...their 'other' job! To working at the BN Railroad...then onto grandchildren, golfing, Realxed Rails...and now leaving their legacy to us and our children to carry on. Your parents were always wonderful friends to our parents and family. Your father never missed stopping by to just say hello, especially when our Dad became so ill and then our Mom when she was trying to move forward without our Dad...Your Dad always took time for everyone offering a bright greeting & smile making all feel special....and the long goodbyes.......Even walking up to Whitebear Avenue to get Chinese for their dinner he'd have a smile on his face...we saw him many times just walking along happy with a smile.....he walked every where! Please know your loss is a huge loss for our family too. We so appreciated him and will forever be better people for having known him. Please accept my sincerest sympathy.

It is with fondness that we remember Dick, and his loving wife, Ann. 
Oh, the stories he could tell; he knew a little about almost any subject.  He visited with so many neighbors that we weren't really sure where he lived.

Have a good round of golf, Dick, whichever course you end up on.

To the Family of Dick Hughes,
We will miss Dick's humor and easy laughter.  I will always remember with fondness how much he enjoyed coming to our Christmas parties and birthday parties for Michael and Michelle.  He loved visiting with everyone.  He had quite the knack for conversation and it was not unusual for Anne to be left standing at the door for 15 minutes before Dick could properly finish his conversations and say his goodbyes.  One of the other things he loved about coming to our house for dinner was the abundance of food we prepared for our guests.  He loved to eat.  He would make sure he sat far from Anne (one of the few times he was separated from Anne) so that he could make frequent trips to the buffet line without Anne scolding him for eating too many treats. Dick brought great joy to our lives!  To Dick's family, we wish peace to bring you comfort, courage to face the days ahead, and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

I am so sorry to hear about Dick's passing. He was a great guy and wonderful neighbor and friend to my parents, Dick and Barb Wood. He always had a smile on his face and was so kind to all of us kids and believe me there were a lot of kids in the neighborhood and alley! God bless you and your family.
