Theodore J. "Ted" Ales

February 22, 1931March 13, 2014

Age 83 Of Stillwater, MN

Passed away peacefully on March 13, 2014. He was preceded in death by Loving Wife, Edith; Parents, Gust & Marie (Koneczny) Ales; and Siblings, Anne, George, Daniel, & Audrey. Survived by Sons, Michael (Catherine), Richard (JoDee), & Vincent (Mary); Seven Grandchildren, Jordan, Emily, Taylor, Stephanie, Mackenzie, Josie & Cassie.

Ted’s parents were immigrants from Poland & Greece. He grew up in St. Paul. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in 1950. Over the years, his classmates at the high school reunions retained lasting memories of each other, and some of them still gather for lunch at White Castle on White Bear Ave. Ted served his country in Korea, as a PFC in the Army, and he was awarded a Purple Heart. He always remembered the soldiers that stood alongside him, and some of his countrymen also regularly gather for lunch at White Castle. Ted had a passion for gardening, landscaping, and traveling, but his favorite pastime was just being with family and friends.

Special thanks to the inspirational Staff at Golden Living Center Nursing Home on Greeley in Stillwater, as well as to the wonderful personnel at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis & the VA clinic in Maplewood.

A Memorial Service will be held to honor Ted’s life at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 18 at Wulff Funeral Home, 1485 White Bear Ave, St. Paul. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Lady of Good Counsel

Ted was a very nice man. He had a unique combination of class, compassion, sensitivity, and social grace. I loved shaking hands with him. He would align his shoulders with yours, look you right in the eye and give your hand a firm, friendly squeeze. He made people feel special. The Ales Family has lost a good man. I am sorry for your loss.
