Vic was born on January 28th, 1938, near David City, Nebraska, on the Meysenburg family farm. Shortly after high school he worked briefly on the family farm with his brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Betty, and then lived with his sister, Rosemary, and worked for a year as a short order cook at the Trail Cafe in Holdrege, Nebraska, run by his brother-in-law, John. He started his 39-year career with the railroad as a telegrapher with the Burlington Route (later to become Burlington Northern Railroad, then Burlington Northern Santa Fe).
Victor was drafted into the US Army in 1961 and worked as an air traffic controller at bases throughout the southern US, serving 3 years before returning to Burlington.
Victor met the love of his life, Mary, in August of 1968. They married on June 7th, 1969 in Omaha and were together for 49 years.
After his retirement from the railroad, he and Mary moved to Colorado and a few years later took a job with Frontier Airlines in the reservations department. He and Mary took advantage of the job’s fringe benefits by flying and traveling everywhere they could in retirement.
In his later years, he dealt with Parkinson’s Disease. He always spoke with his kids of how much he enjoyed the visits from family, friends, and loved ones, even if the Parkinson’s made it harder for his smile and joy to be seen on his face during visits with him.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary (Schroeder); infant son, Joel; son-in-law Steve Smith; parents, Leo and Anita (Koehler) Meysenburg of David City, NE; Siblings Thomas, Richard, Jerome, Arnold, and Rosemary (Reiter).
Victor is survived, and will be dearly missed by, his daughter Claire; sons Tony (Sarah), and Peter (Amanda Morgan); grandchildren Odin, Isla, and Adrien; brothers Leo and James; sister Julianne Hardy, and sister-in-law, Helen; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
