Leland (Lee) Darrell McBride

Leland Darrel McBride (Lee) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and friends on April 21, 2023. He was 88 years old. Born on August 1, 1934, in Kearney, Nebraska to Carrie and Joe McBride. A lifelong resident of Golden, Colorado and recently moved to Buckeye, Arizona in 2020.

He was proceeded in death by son Timothy, granddaughter Jill, father, mother, sister Joann, and wife Joleen. He is survived by his second wife Twila, Lee’s children Mike (Cameron), Patricia, Lori (Jim), brother Jerry, Twila’s children Micheal (Amy), Suzanne. Lee has 12 grandchildren 6 with Joleen and 6 with Twila, 9 great grandchildren Joleen (4) Twila (5).

Lee and Joleen both attended North High School in Denver, Colorado and after marrying on February 8, 1953, they made their home in Golden, Colorado. Joleen passed away February 7, 2006, just short of their 52nd Anniversary.

For 46 years Lee made his career and life work at the Foss Company General Store in Golden, CO. Holding almost every position in the store including Vice President.

Lee loved his Golden Community and served it well throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Golden Lions Club for 65 years. In December of 2020 he was recognized as the longest serving member of the club. He spent 20 years as a Volunteer Fireman for the Golden Fire Department. In 1976 he was honored as Fireman of the Year for his heroic efforts as a first responder enabling the rescue of 4 people from a submerged car in clear creek. His tenure in the community of Golden include Chief of the Golden Fire Department, President of the Golden Chamber of Commerce and the Golden Lions Club.

In November 2006 he married Twila Moomaw and Lee had the 2nd great love of his life. They spent 17 years continuing his legacy of serving Golden. They experience many new adventures; moving from a lifelong home, getting to know Twila’s children, traveling, and meeting new friends in Buckeye Arizona.

Lee maintained a love for classic cars and had 5 precious heart-felt restored vehicles that he paraded whenever possible. He is now gently racing around heaven doing what he did best, caring. Lee will be remembered as a humble servant to his community and his love of family.

Please join us in a celebration of life Monday, May 29, 2023 starting at 11:00 a.m. with reception following at the Golden Hotel – 800 11th Street – Golden, CO. 80401, until 3:00 p.m.
