Mrs. LouAnne Sassone, 84, passed away on May 28, 2026. Born on April 30, 1942 in Duluth, Minnesota, to Lulu May (Towne) and Stewart Lisle Sterling, LouAnne was no stranger to moving around to different towns and cities during her childhood. She married Gerald “Gerry” Louis Sassone on October 21, 1967, and they raised three daughters in Antioch, California. Together they enjoyed dancing, skating, gardening, and their weekly bowling league. LouAnne held a variety of jobs throughout her life, including positions with Kaiser Permanente, an accounting firm, and an optometrist. She and Gerry died only six days apart, showing how closely their lives—and hearts—remained intertwined.
LouAnne was a deeply creative spirit who found immense joy in sewing, especially in designing the beautiful, sequined skating dresses she lovingly made for two of her daughters involved in competitive roller skating. When she wasn’t sewing, she was immersed in quilting, favoring the intricate and expressive style known as “crazy” quilting. She spent countless hours crafting one-of-a-kind works of art, and her talent was even recognized in a quilting magazine. Outside of her sewing room, LouAnne also found happiness tending to her garden and caring for her plants, nurturing them with the same patience and creativity she brought to her quilting.
LouAnne was also an active member of several sewing circles, exchanging quilt squares with fellow quilters across the country. Each participant added their unique touch to these shared creations, resulting in richly layered pieces filled with collective creativity and care.
She often joked, “The one who dies with the most fabric wins!”—and by all accounts, she won by a landslide. (Her daughters can personally attest to this!)
Even as her health declined and she could no longer quilt, her passion never faded. She loved talking about her craft and took great joy in sharing her past creations with others.
We cannot close this obituary without honoring someone special who came into LouAnne’s life near the end—Fanie. What began as hospice care grew into a meaningful friendship, as Fanie became both her nurse and trusted companion. She cared for LouAnne with deep compassion and devotion, bringing comfort and dignity in her final days. For the love she gave to LouAnne, Fanie will always be a cherished part of our family.
LouAnne was preceded in death by Gerald Sassone (husband) and Stewart Sterling (brother). She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Sassone, Nicole Hood (Rashad), and Gabrielle Mills (Damon); her grandchildren, Brianna Vidales (Lorenzo), Shelby Heskett, Lauren Mills, Riley Sneathern (Payton), Joshua Mills, Jackson Mills, and Isabelle Mills; and her great-grandchildren, Ivor and Ronan.
A small joint service is being planned for LouAnne and Gerry, given the proximity of their deaths.
Those wishing to honor her memory may consider a donation to Fanie Wehmanen’s Personal Care Home (Gifted Hands PCH), to help her continue to provide the same loving care to others like LouAnne.
