

Richard was born February 22, 1947, in West Palm Beach, FL. He was the middle son of the late Robert David Duncan and Elizabeth Grimm Duncan. Richard was married for 56 years to the love of his life, Bonnie Ann Duncan. He proudly enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 where he actively served for 3 years and then continued serving in the Army Reserve until he retired in 1994 as a Sergeant Major E-9. He spent his career in law enforcement beginning with the Florida Highway Patrol during which time he attended Florida Atlantic University and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. He later accepted a promotion opportunity with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office where he served in various command staff positions culminating in his retirement as a Major.
Some of Richard’s early hobbies included piloting single engine planes and parachuting. His most cherished pastime was spent with his family. Richard was an incredibly devoted and loving husband and father.
For the past 21 years, Richard courageously endured Parkinson’s. Through it all, he remained grateful for the life God had given him.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie; his two daughters, Stacey (Ted) Bernhardt and Holly Duncan; his granddaughter, Ashley Bernhardt; his two brothers, Bob (Patty) Duncan and Jim (Lynn) Duncan; nephews, nieces and their children.
A private burial ceremony will be held for the family at the Georgia National Cemetery where Richard will be given full military honors. Visitation for family and friends will be held at South Forsyth Memorial Chapel located at 3545 Peachtree Pkwy in Suwanee, GA on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 5-7 PM.
