It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Hugh Joseph Patrick Hayes "Hughie" at his home on Meadows Road on Saturday, January 18 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Woodbine on March 7, 1935 to the late John and Sadie Hayes, Hughie was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
He was a carpenter by trade and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenter's Local 1588. He was also a member of the Liberal Association and the Mira Fiddlers. He was a lover of the outdoors who enjoyed hunting and fishing. A strong man of faith, Hughie was a longtime member of St. Mary's Parish in East Bay and over the years was actively involved as a Youth Group Leader and member of the Parish Men's Group. He used his love and talent for music to be a blessing to those around him. Hughie was also athletic, playing hockey and boxing in his younger days. Those who knew Hughie knew he was full of mischief and you would never know what he was going to say or what joke he was going to make.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 6 sisters and 4 brothers. He is survived by Florence, his loving wife of 56 years, 3 daughters Belinda (Jerry), Michelle (Bernie) and Lori (James), grandchildren Laura, Travis, Logan, Jarred, Terry, Declan, Danielle and Breagh, great grandchildren Hadden, Lynaya (whom he called his little angels), Hannah, Madilyn and Jack. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws and extended family.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at St. Mary's Church, East Bay with Fr. Anthony O'Connor officiating. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting twcurry.com.
The family would like to thank the Osprey Angels, Axy, Modi and Vatsal, CB County Home Makers for their excellent care and kindness shown to Hughie. Special thanks to his principle Care Giver Tiffany Meyer for her care and compassion and also to Dr. Mayatt and his staff.
