Menendez Jr., Abelardo, 71, of Tampa, passed away on Jan. 4, 2016. He was born in Tampa and attended the University of Tampa, where he earned his Bachelors in Business Administration. Abelardo was an U.S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam War, during which he received the Purple Heart. He was a humble and simple military man. He enjoyed living a structured life and was a good provider who took good care of his family. He was frugal, but would splurge on a good steak. Abelardo was preceded in death by his first wife Martha Ann Menendez. He is survived by Hortencia “Carla” Menendez, his wife of 8 years; his son Abelardo III and his wife Wanda; his grandchildren, Gerianne and Alexandria, and his sister, Grace Walsh and her husband Thomas.
