Alexander Bortoff passed away on January 17, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born on September 13, 1932 to the late Joseph and Julia Bortoff. He was a Professor Emeritus of Physiology at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, teaching first year medical students. He is survived by his spouse, Susan Linehan; sons Scott Bortoff (Kelly) and Greg Bortoff (Julia); grandchildren Nicholas Bortoff, Erica Hanania, Zachary Bortoff, Lucas Bortoff, Julie Bortoff, and Kayla Bortoff; stepchildren Laura Sorensen and Jason Pirodsky as well as many other family and friends.
