January 29, 1954 – May 9, 2025
Angel “Tony” Antonio Ortiz Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 71.
Born on January 29, 1954, in the Canal Zone of Panama, Tony was the son of the late Eladio Ortiz-Ramos and Eusebia Maria Blanquiset. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Eladio Ortiz Jr. and Raul Ortiz.
Tony grew up in Pemberton, New Jersey, and graduated from Pemberton High School in 1976. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country and rose to the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge.
Following his military service, Tony embarked on a dedicated career in law enforcement. He first joined the Pemberton Township Police Department and later became a member of the New Jersey State Police. His commitment to service extended beyond law enforcement as he continued working in fields that sparked his interest and allowed him to help others—from technical service roles to cooking and security work. A true “jack of all trades,” Tony found fulfillment in every role he took on. He eventually retired after many dedicated years at Premier Lighting in Riverview, Florida.
Tony's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Zulma Iris Ortiz; his children: Adam, Angelica, Angel Jr., Alex, and Davey (with his wife Lisa); and his cherished grandchildren: Dominique, Jayce, David (and his wife Emily and expected great-grandchild, Koda Ortiz, on the way), Teyanna, Adam Jr., and Jasani.
He is also survived by his loving siblings: Maximo Justo, Alma Ortiz, Elizabeth Stephanie, Michelle Senni, Norma Ortiz, Carmen Zayas, Blanca Camargo, and Luis M. Estronza.
Tony will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, and his generous heart. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cared for, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A life well-lived in service, love, and dedication—Tony leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of life for Angel will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33614.
