Ann Marie Doyle
February 2, 1952 – April 28, 2023

Ann Marie Doyle (71) was birthed to eternal life on Friday, April 28, 2023, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Michael Doyle; children Marce Piller (husband Steve) of Apple Valley MN, Elizabeth Skophammer (husband Jordan) of Bloomington, MN, Patrick Doyle (wife Ingrid) of Tampa, FL, and Kathleen Anderson (husband William) of St. Paul, MN. She adored being a grandmother to her eight grandchildren: Lauren, Blake, Grant, and Burke Piller; Teddy and twins Henry and Charlie Anderson; and Graham Skophammer.
She was born in Sioux Falls, SD on February 2nd, 1952, to Elizabeth and Erwin Elkjer. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and older brothers, Neil, Jon, and Steve Elkjer. She is survived by siblings Bill Elkjer (TX), Mary Elkjer Steele (SC), David Elkjer (SD), Therese Elkjer Goraj (SD), and Joe Elkjer (MN).
A lifelong learner, Ann’s education included the University of South Dakota (BS Sociology), the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota (MA Human Services Policy and Administration), and the University of Tampa (MBA with a concentration in Non-Profit Management).
For 50 years, Ann’s primary focus and expertise was child welfare. Her formative professional experiences started in 1974 years as a criminal justice planner in South Dakota. From there, she served as a Planning Specialist for Ramsey County (MN) before her family moved to Tampa. There, she was the Director of Community Development for the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. In 1999, she co-founded the Devereux Kids program and served as a Regional Administrator for Devereux Florida.
After retiring in 2019, she served as Executive Director for Love INC (In the Name of Christ) of Metro Tampa, a nonprofit she and husband Michael co-founded in 2016. After retiring a second time, they co-founded Dorothy Day Tampa in 2022. She was also a Board Member of the Washington, DC-based Breadcoin Foundation, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sertoma International and served on the advisory board of Cristo-Rey School. Her faith and commitment to the underserved motivated her throughout her life.
All who crossed her path were touched and transformed by Ann’s humble presence and compassion for others.
A special thank you to the amazing nurses, physicians, and staff of the Trauma ICU at Tampa General Hospital for their gentleness, care, and compassion for Ann and her family.
A visitation service will be held at Blount and Curry MacDill at 605 S. MacDill Ave. 33609 on Tuesday, May 2nd from 5- 7 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 509 N Florida Ave. in Tampa, FL on Wednesday, May 3rd at 10 AM. A reception immediately following the funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church – North Campus at 3515 N Florida Ave. in Tampa.
